About
About Herae
Herae is a free Chrome extension that lets two people watch movies and videos together from different places, in sync, with a video call beside the film. One person presses play and the film starts on both screens at the same moment, on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube and almost any other site. It was made for long-distance couples, and works just as well for friends and family.
How Herae keeps two people in sync
Herae does not share a screen. Each person plays the film from their own account, at full quality, in their own browser; Herae only sends play, pause and seek between the two browsers, so both stay on the same frame. Because nothing is screen-shared, protected services such as Netflix and Prime Video don't turn into a black screen the way they do over Discord or a video-call screen share. Herae works from the video player on the page rather than a fixed list of supported services, which is why it also covers smaller sites and embedded players.
What Herae includes
- Synchronized playback (play, pause, seek) on almost any website with a video player.
- Voice and video calls, peer-to-peer, in a small window beside the film, plus a live chat over the page.
- AI Moments: Herae notices the reactions you both had (on-device, nothing sent for analysis) and offers them at the end of the night to keep.
- A shared timeline of your nights, moments and reviews, and a way to plan the next movie night with calendar invites.
- An invite link: your partner can join without making an account.
Who Herae is for
Herae is built first for long-distance couples who want movie night to feel like the same couch, and it works the same way for friends and family who watch together from different cities or countries.
What Herae doesn't do
- Herae runs in Google Chrome on desktop and laptop computers (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS). It does not run on phones, tablets or smart TVs.
- Each person needs their own access to the streaming service. Herae does not provide, host or stream any video.
- Herae can't make a title available in a country where the streaming service doesn't offer it.
Pricing
The free plan includes your first two movie nights in full, then 4 hours of synced watching a month, with voice, video and chat included. Herae Plus ($8.99 a month) removes the limit for one account; Herae Together ($12.99 a month) removes it for you and one person you choose. Details on the pricing page.
Privacy
Calls go directly between the two browsers. Face detection for AI Moments runs inside your browser; no video or image is sent anywhere for analysis, and nothing is kept unless you choose to keep a moment. For syncing, Herae reads the play and pause state and position of the video on the page you choose to sync, plus its title and address, and not your form fields, passwords or browsing history. The full privacy policy has the details.
